The Greater Rochester Pagan Pride Project, Inc.

Rochester Pagan Pride Day Festival

2010 Workshops Descriptions

Voodoo Workshop - 11 am at Orchard Grove Shelter

Witchdoctor Utu will talk about the sometimes misunderstood practices of voodoo, its history, how it came to the new world, how it in fact has roots right in Rochester,  and the ways that the spirits of the tradition manifest through dance and music, song and call.
Sometimes the best way to understand something is to experience it. Some accoutrements and tools will be on display as well as some of the drum rhythms that bring the voodoo spirits to our earth plane.
Witchdoctor Utu is a founding  member of the Niagara Voodoo Shrine located in St. Catharines Ontario, where the legendary "Underground Railroad" ended. Harriet Tubman, the conductor of the clandestine movement,  brought hundreds of freedom seeking slaves to the area, many of whom were renowned conjurers, root doctors and like Harriet Tubman herself, diviners.
Utu is also a member of the New Orleans Voodoo Spiritual Temple.
